Salary increases are very hard to get, yet they are not impossible and can be achieved by working hard towards improving yourself.
1. Make an effort to upgrade your career. You are the best judge, think of ways through which you can give your career a boost. This way, seeing your effort, employer may decide to increase your salary.
2. Companies usually pay more to a person whose highly skilled than a person whose trying to be smart. If you have some skills that your boss or manager admires, he might increase your salary even if you’re not asking for it. If you think that by acquiring a certain skill, you can achieve much more in your job, then go for it and get an increase.
3. Try to improve your overall performance, which includes character building and the way you communicate to your environment and the people around you.
4. The way you deal with other people in your job will make a great impact. Be polite, regular and eager to help others. If you continue the hard work, your boss might consider giving a salary increase.
5. Stay motivated. Getting even slightly larger percentage increases and a bit more frequently can make thousands of dollars difference over a short period of time. Do the math.

Some times during our jobs, we come across such coworkers who are really difficult to deal with.
Here are some tips to deal with such difficult co workers:
- First step is to try and find out what is the real problem, as the problem can be due to different reasons ranging from simple personality conflict to a manipulative or back stabbing situation. Having more knowledge about conflicted issue will help you to handle the situation in better manner.
- If the situation is nothing more than anger or distress, or a co-worker who complains a lot or likes to gossip, limit your time with them. Only contact with such person when any work related task is required. If co-worker kept on criticizing you then calmly explain to them that it makes you uncomfortable and tell them to stop that.
- If the issue is interfering your job address it with the co-worker first and ask for a private meeting, with gentle manner tell him about your position and work towards a resolution. If he is willing for an agreement and you see improvement then be sure to show that employee gratitude. By showing positive behavior you can maintain a better working relationship with the employee.
- If still there is no compromise and issue continues then talk to your supervisor, make a private meeting your boss, explain all to your boss and also the steps you takes to resolve the problem.
- If you got same problem with your supervisor then treat him in same manner as you treated to your co worker, address it with the boss first and move up the chain of command if your boss is not willing to work to work out the problem.
- Don’t leak out the matter only discuss it with your friend co-worker and may be by that you will get any guidance or assistance. Never discuss or complain about that issue with a group of employees, it will make you look bad and words could get back to the co-worker you are experiencing issues with, and that will cause unnecessary conflict.
- Try to keep your professional relationship normal with your co-worker, if you let your emotion take you over then there will be a confrontation that can result in bad way.
- If your co-worker is undermining you then don’t make it a point to return the favor. On one hand, the co-worker may not realize that he is undermining you on the other side even if it is intentional, by sinking to their level, you are not doing your reputation any favors and may wind up being the one in the hot seat.
- If your co-worker is trying to sabotage you then make it sure that you will document all steps and findings. Keep all incidents time record because maintaining a paper record is good way to backup your side of the story.
- If you see that talking to your co-worker, and also speaking to your supervisor gives no result then file a request for transfer to another department if not then find any other job. Because then it’s better to take your self out from such miserable situation where you get always tension.

As explained to me years ago by [...]
Most of us on get up on Christmas morning in a very happy mood, while the kids are always much anxious to open their presents.
But there are so many people for whom Christmas Day is just the same like any other working day. When I started writing about the people who work on this holiday, at the beginning i thought that the list about such people will be small but when I started writing it grew long.
The Christmas Day operation involves the widest range of occupations, lets start from the commercial airports. On airports there are different people who are helping the people to make last minute connections with their families and loved ones, on air airport from baggage handlers to security people, from pilots to controllers everyone is involved.
Aside from planes local transportation networks are also operating on holiday schedule. The bus drivers, train engineers and conductors, and even taxi drivers are helping the people to get where they need to go.
On Christmas Holiday you wont find any full service grocery store opened thanks to that volunteers at Redwood City’s Safeway at Sequoia Station for opening the stores so that you can get necessary items which you might need for a holiday feast.
Power supply department workers will present on their jobs on holiday to make sure that there wont be any failure of electricity or to tackle down any functional fault. Same like that waste treatment plant will be having its full crew because our digestive systems and dishwashers don’t have any holiday.
There is no day off at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s local weather offices also because media, military and farmers depends on their predictions, that’s because of their previous experiences that many of rainy season’s worst storms begin to come in around Christmastime. As this year 2009 is an EI Nino year means more storms are expected. However many of their volunteer weather spotters takes day off on Christmas day.
Many years ago military and security personnel were having greatly relaxed day on Christmas but after 9/11 they are always on high alert on Christmas Day.
On a very special day like Christmas day still working far from loved ones really a meant a lot.
Police department will be having a minimum staff on street patrols but the traffic police will be having full staff present on Christmas day because on this day more drunk drivers and family disputes on this day.
There is day off for firemen also; they also work on Christmas day, because fire incidents are having no specific time to break out. That’s why even on such big a firefighter have to go on job.
As the older people gets so much sensitive and their feelings of loneliness get more on such holiday, so often they thinks about suicide to deal with this pain. For such people suicide hotlines are staffed everyday of the year including local and national lines.
Many people go to restaurants or stays in hotel on Christmas day, thanks to the staffs of those hotels and restaurants that they are working on Christmas day and because of that you are getting your best Christmas day.
The U.S. Postal Service is not having full staff on the Dec 25 but still they deliver express mail on that day. That’s like getting to play Santa.
TV channels and radio stations continues to broadcast on Christmas and entertaining the people without taking day off. While in printing media they are not having full staff because it rare to have any news breaking on Christmas day.
Plumbers and other service people are also available on Christmas day. And if they demand charge of their own choice doing repairing work in your home then that’s their right because they sacrificed their big day for your comfort.

How to tell if a job interview went well? That is the most common question, which comes in our mind after every interview, and really this question, according to my experience always has most unpredicted answer.
Its unpredictable because even if interview went well, the final decision depends on other candidates also, as at the time of interview, you were not the only one present, there were other candidates also. Sometime there are more brilliant candidates than you and even if your interview went well you might not get the job.
Being selected in interview also depends on luck.
But then again, usually if the interview goes well you will get that call back. So how can you really tell how you did?
Here are some hints that at least can give you some idea of how the job interview went:
- Did they lean in toward you with enthusiasm?
- Did you see a good deal of open body language in them? Unlike they were sitting with closed arms to their body with un-relaxing mood.
- Any such thing like their hands or body position matched with yours sometimes that happens and shows a feeling of being in synch.
- Did you see them smiling or nodding while you were speaking.
- Is the interview gone longer than 15 minutes?
- Were they sticking to a script or they follow up on the things that you said? (Some places require the script, so this only helps for places that don’t.)
- Did you heard from them anything like “ when you are working here” or “ you’ll see for yourself”?
- Did they ask you “when you can start? If it was asked then how it was phrased if it was a standard interview question then it might be delivered quickly if not then there might be follow up questions or comments.
- If you were asked that you had any last questions, was that said to you with a smile leaning in toward you with real interest or least showing open body language?
- Did they tell you that you’d hear from them soon?
- Any real connection you felt from their body language or questions?
More “yes” answers to above mentioned questions means that it went better and its not for sure that it gone negative if mostly answers are “no”.
Every place has different interview style and there is no standard measuring technique for assessing the interview result.
The most important thing if you were noticing each and every one of these thing during interview, then keep in mind that you are not position to assess how it went. Just try to relax and set your mind on one point and focus on the interviewer’s questions and what you had answered. Your instincts will give you a better idea that how it had gone.
But at the end if you haven’t got the job you might be thinking what thing other candidate was having that you don’t have. For you its best that just calm down and congratulate yourself on doing the best you could and then just get on with enjoying your life. You had done all that you can.
If you are fit for them then they call you if not then better luck for next time. May be next time you will get better job than this one because luck matters a lot also.

Look for any part time job before you get a full time job of your choice.
3 – Update your resume
Update your resume and put all the qualifications and education you have. Submit your resume to different companies where you want to work. Never forget to mention your accomplishments in the resume. Also, put only those references that you know will speak highly of you. Your resume must be having key words so that it can get future employers attention.
Customize your resume and cover letter for the specific job you are applying for because most resumes are scanned by computers. Use same words, which are used by companies in the job description like “ Self-Starter” or “Proven Results”. The computer will pick up your resume and it will be moved to the top of the pile.
4 – Network
It will never be good to hide from people about losing your job. Just let everyone know that you lost the job and are now looking for a new job. Networking is one of the good ways for finding jobs. Your working friends and family will help you to find a new job, and don’t be ashamed because everyone has been in your situation before and knows what it is like.
Get them a copy of your resume, they might will help you directly or refer you to someone else that is hiring.
5 – Relax
Use the period after losing a job for analyzing your career choices, take something interesting to read or just watch TV and relax for few days. Just stay calm with cool piece of mind, there is no more need to get up early at 6am and rush to the office. Just go for a walk in morning, play with kids. This will recharge your mind and you will think well about your career. Just consume this jobless period as vacation because soon you will get job again and then your next vacation will be year away.
6 – Keep in Touch with Co-Workers
Keep in touch with your ex-boss and co-workers. Because if there will be any decision made to take back the former workers then you may be considered if you kept in contact with your boss or co workers.

You don’t have any excuse for that extra fat, because now you are totally free no more job. So this is the time to pay attention to your health and fitness. Join any gym and take out the fast food from your menu. Set a goal for reducing weight and waist size so that for you look great for your next job.

Doing volunteer work not only help others on the community but also you can add that experience to your resume. This is also a form of networking. You can meet someone working at a hospital or homeless shelter that can offer you a paying gig.

Searching jobs on the sites you can astray to other sites also such new, sports, music sites. But I will suggest that stay away from so much recreational sites such as porn sites. Though it ok to remain up to date regarding latest music, fashion or politics but don’t get sidetracked too often. Anyhow you can learn best things from websites also.
10 – Stay Positive
Never blame yourself for losing the job. Just think that whatever happened it might be good for you in future. That job now became of past of your life and now you have to look forward. Go to church, mosque or synagogue and pray for betterment. If you are not religious then just stay positive and don’t think that you are worthless or loser.
You can utilize this time for building up your character and confidence to face next up coming challenges in the life.
