Best Job Search Tips

Saturday 28 August 2010 @ 2:20 pm

Finding a job, employment could be one of the most important part of one’s life. It is not necessary that the job you aim or search for will be yours. In order to work where you want or work in any good place, you must improve yourself so that no one can reject you. Even if someone does, you will have many other accepted options open. Let us take a look at certain job hunting tips that will help you find a good job. In order to get a good job, you must make sure that you are eligible, that is in all aspects.

You must gain a degree, bachelors or masters to get into a certain job market. After you are graduated and trained and received a training certificate from a professional college or institution then you are all set to search for a job. Now, what usually happens is that the job market is quite different from your college or educational institution. It will not have you to give semester exams but will open you to new and regular challenges and these will all be practical. So, the job/employment market would be different from your educational institute but all you have to do is be confident and trust your skills and abilities. Of course you will learn and gain experience with time. However, there is no certain pattern for employment as from the time of filling applications to the time of the toughest interviews, you might face a personality shake. Be confident because this is how it is. Don’t be nervous. Here are some ways and tips that are useful for all who are in a job search.

1. Go for career placement services. Mostly colleges and institutions offer job assistance to their graduating students. This way the institute knows whats best for it’s student and several companies reach out to these institutions and hire from their students. Going through a number of application forms is much of a hassle for them so companies set us stalls at different institutions to hire the students. Internships during your educational period could also add to it.

2. A good method for musicians who are seeking for employment is that they should not only look for opportunities and openings in newspapers but also they should look around everywhere in public boards, small shops, centers, grocery stores and coffee houses etc.

3. Spread in your network that you are looking for a job. Talk about your job search with your friends, family members, neighbors, people you meet in the church and anyone you come across and they might be knowing of people who are looking for skills you have. This way you might get hold on to a good opportunity.

4. You can get yourself in a temporary post in a local company. This might not be a very high paying option but when you are not open to other options, this way you can get an entry in the local market and with further proof of your ability and skills, you can make you war through as permanent.

5. Job fairs and conventions that are held by different companies annually are also a good option. Make the most of it by going to the convention and meeting the company representatives. Ask them all serious questions that come to your mind regarding the job employment process and gather as many details as possible.

6. Another option you could look for is the state employment agency. Contact them and drop in your CV with all the details and whenever they come across a certain job, they will contact you. You might also be interviewed by a job coordinator.

7. For professional people, those who are already in job, professional job placement services will be a great source of help as they will open you to different positions of which you yourself would not be aware. This might require a fee or part of your salary until the settlement and this is the reason why this could be expensive for fresh graduates. They would also hold mock interviews and CV Amendments in order to tone your skills.

8. You could go to electronic application kiosks and research on different companies. You might also get paid when researching about a particular company.

4 Steps To Find Your Desired Job

Saturday 28 August 2010 @ 2:20 pm

Job has become everyone’s need these days as it is impossible to meet ends with only one person working. Every person in a family has to work and find a suitable job for him or herself. But it’s not necessary that the job you are doing has to be of your choice and your type. One has to listen to their boss in any case. Some may like it and some may not. But in order have monthly payment one has to stick to his job.

Either you stay and earn money or leave and find a new job. When finding a job it’s important to focus on four important things. These are following.

Firstly it’s important that you polish your resume. Secondly pump up your applications. Thirdly, it’s important that understand how to interview and last but not the least is that you follow the instructions properly.

Finding Your Desired Job

Polishing your resume:

The first main step to focus on is to polish your resume. Your resume should be short and should explain everything in few sentences. It should not be lengthy and do not write stories on how and what can you do. A brief introduction of yours is enough for the person to see. If your resume is boring then no one will be interested to read it. Long stories, without any solid punching line will make your CV too sleepy for an employer. Resume should be short and interesting and it should explain your credibility in a few sentences.

Pumping up your application:

This in another important thing to keep in mind. When finding a job send your resume to the places you suit for and to places you are interested. Do not send your resume everywhere and to every place. Apply for the jobs that best suit and pay you good. Rather than sending your resume too many places and get confused. It’s easy to choose among 6 places than choosing among 100 places.

Understanding how to respond in an  interview:

During an interview you get a chance to sale yourself. You have to presentable and tell the interview about your abilities and personal features and benefits. In an interview you have to present yourself and convince the interviewers that why they should hire you, what specialties do you have and how will you be able to help the company.

Following the instructions:

While giving interview make them feel that you are interested and you really want the job. Do not try to threaten them or behave rudely. Answer properly whatever they ask. You have to be polite, persistent and personable in front of them. Tell them what made you apply in their company and something interesting which shows that you really deserve the job.

If you follow these four main tips in finding a job than you will surely be loved and hired by the company. All you have to do is be yourself and prove it.

How To Be Prepared For Layoffs

Wednesday 25 August 2010 @ 12:00 pm

You might have seen times when your friends or colleagues get laid off which is especially common in today’s recession stricken world. Even though the company doesn’t admit to be facing a tough time but many a times their employees are laid off. Being an employer you should make sure to inform the employee before hand about what decision you are taking for him or her. In order to keep yourself prepared and ready for an any time lay off, follow the following steps.

1) Analyse the cause

If you are an executive, manager or employer then think of ways to avoid this. If there are problems occurring then try to find the cause of those problems and strengthen the roots of the good employees through creative methods. Try to keep you employees and polish their skills.

2) Be known to facts regarding your company

Be aware of the different situations going on in your company. Check on the stock prices, industry trends and public relations. If you find an other good opportunity and you know your company is not in good situations then don’t get caught but switch to feasible options.

3) Consider talking to your boss

In difficult times, both of the company or your’s, try to talk to your boss. Discuss different things with him or her regarding the job and try to comprehend from his talk where your position in the company is, how much does the company need you and what is your role in the company. If you get a positive signal, good for you, and if not then even better, as you will know beforehand that you have to look for an other job.

4) Apply for a job as an employed person

If you think you are in a weak position and you could get laid off anytime then don’t cry or waste time instead start applying for other jobs. As many employers in the market tend to hire people who are on job rather than those who are unemployed.

5) Start expanding your network list

Do all your home work. Prepare your resume and ready all your documents as you might have a risk of getting laid off or otherwise switching to another job yourself. Spread in your network that you are looking for a job. Look for jobs and make sure you talk with your reliable and helpful friends.

Even if you do get laid off, don’t feel miserable and don’t curse yourself. Be smart, get over it (it is not a big deal) and don’t waste any time at all. Be sure there are hundreds of other opportunities awaiting you.

Pittsburgh Loses Jobs In July (but fewer than in "typical" July)

Wednesday 25 August 2010 @ 9:40 am
The July unemployment figures just released show that Pittsburgh lost just over 15,000 jobs in July.  On the surface this is bad news.  However, when looking at historical numbers, Pittsburgh ALWAYS loses jobs in July as teachers and other government workers are laid off for the summer (with census workers adding even more to this number than usual). Pittsburgh lost fewer jobs this July than the past five year July average.

The good news is that this is the first month in over two years that Pittsburgh had more jobs (4,400 more) than the year ago period.  Particular strength was seen in Education and Healthcare (+2,300), retail (+1,700) and Leisure and Hospitality (+1,400).

Tips For An Effective Resume

Sunday 22 August 2010 @ 9:40 am

Are you on a job search and you need to have an impressive Resume? If yes, then what you need to do in order to have a good resume is to go through the following points and mark them on a check list. This will be a great help in building your career.

1) Create a summary of your qualifications

The olden type of resume requires you to write about your qualifications and what you want from the job. It would be having your degrees (still required) with a list of things such as salary, benefits and job type. However, in the modern day, you are required to be more clear and be able to show what you can offer. You must make sure not to brag about what you expect from the job but simply right what you have to offer them. You could summarize your qualification in your resume by writing,” A problem solving person with good convincing skills who has worked for 10 years in XYZ company.”

2) Include all the main key words and phrases

Keep the job description and your resume, both in front. Read the job description and take out the main keywords and phrases and fit them somewhere on the top of your resume. Do not use them everywhere. Just mention them neatly with bullets that the requirement they need is showing in your resume.

3) Customize your resume for each job you apply

Have you ever done or thought of doing this? If not then start doing it. Modify your resume according to each job demand. You don’t need to rewrite the whole of your resume but just make proper amendments in the Accomplishments portion of your resume. For example if the company has emphasized on marketing then frame your accomplishments in that way, if they are looking for social media then mention all work even volunteer accordingly.

4) Proof read your resume and run it through spell check

Many people are not paying attention to this when writing a resume and this lack of attention could be disastrous for you. Spellings should be taken care of. After you have finalized your resume then ask someone good with spellings to go through it and inform you of any spelling errors. The question may arise, ” So what if there is a spelling mistake?” The answer to this would just be that if you have spelling mistakes in your resume, the employer will end up thinking of you as a non-serious individual who did not bother to go through his resume and hence he would think that you don’t need the job so bad.

5) Include specific and measurable information in your accomplishments

Do not just boast about things you did in your past job without being specific. Be specific. For example if you have written that you increased the sales of the company through a low cost program then be more direct and write increased the sales of the company by 25 percent through a low cost program.

These points need to be considered just after you finish reading this article. If you have not gone through your resume according to these points then don’t worry. You can still make amendments and create a good resume for any other job offer awaiting.

How To Evaluate A Job Offer

Sunday 22 August 2010 @ 9:40 am

You can’t just jump onto any job offer you get. You have to take into considerations a few things. Most organizations will give you a week or so to answer and some would not give you that much time. However, there are certain things that you need to take into consideration before agreeing to the job. Things that must be considered include job atmosphere, salary (fair or not), your interest in the job, advancement opportunities and benefits etc. However in order to rightly evaluate a job offer, you must go according to the following steps.

1) The Organization

You can find out about the background of the organization regarding it’s activities, age, size, financial condition and location. You can get information about large organizations from their websites or by contacting their public relations office. Also if you know a certain acquaintance in that company, he or she will help you in collecting valuable information about the company. A public company can be assessed through it’s annual report. There are useful sources from where you can find out about the organization. You can either ask a former or current employee of the organization, read news about that organization in  newspaper or magazine or search for information in directories.

2)  The Job

After you have found out about the organization and are satisfied with the reviews, your next step should be to know about your job. You must try to get as much information as possible from the employer before accepting or rejecting the offer. See where the job is located. What will be the cost of living? Cost of transportation? Also check if the work you are required to do matches your interest. Assess through the position of the job in the company’s eye. Also see what the working hours will be.

3) The Opportunities

Get to know about the opportunities your employer offers. Opportunities include learning new skills, gaining quality experience, raise in salary, promotion possibilities etc.

4) The Salary and Benefits

The salary is mostly discussed and talked about in the beginning and mentioned in your job acceptance letter. You must try to find out through the nature of your work if the salary that is being offered to you fair or not. If through proper information you find out that  the salary being offered to you is not just to your job type or work hours then talk to the employer and negotiate with him or her. This way you will be able to know before hand what you were to get into.

Therefore, considering the four points mentioned above, before accepting or rejecting any job offer will surely help you and you will make regret free decision.
